Phillip Asiodu Wins The Nigerian Golden Book Distinctive Hero Award, 2015


Phillip AsioduCommander of the Order of the Niger (CON) (born 19 February 1933, Lagos State, Nigeria) is a Nigerian Diplomat,Bureaucrat, past president of the Nigerian Economic Society and former Federal Minister of Petroleum.
Phillip was born on 26 February 1934. He attended King’s College, Lagos State, Nigeria in 1952 and later proceeded to the Queen's College, Oxford where he obtained a Master of Art (M.A) degree in Philosophy. He joined the Nigerian Foreign Service in 1957 and later became the Chancellor, Nigerian Mission to the UN in New York. He joined the Nigerian Civil service in 1964 and was appointed Federal Permanent Secretary. In 1983, he was appointed Special Adviser to the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Alhaji Shehu Shagari on economic affairs and was also the Chairman Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs. 

In 1999, he was appointed Chief Economic Adviser to the former Nigerian President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo. He served as a member of the Honorary Presidential Advisory Council on investment for four years ( 2001-2005), President of the Nigerian-German Business Council, Chairman Nigerian Economic Summit Group (NESG). Among other leadership roles includes the planning and implementation of Nigeria’s oil and gas policies. He also took part in the negotiations for Nigeria’s admission into OPEC, 1971.
In 1998, he became a member of the People's Democratic Party, and a Trustee of the party. He is the winner of The Nigerian Golden Book Distinctive Hero Award, 2015.
